Apple iOS 5 is, arguably, the version we’ve always been waiting for. New iOS builds have always introduced new features, but in iOS 5 Apple sets out its digital hub ecosystem, the culmination of a decade of product positioning and service development. It also brings very specific challenges to each of Apple’s key competitors – Siri as the answer to Android’s voice command system.

Apple iOS 5 new features:

iMessage service in the Messaging app enabling instant messages to other iOS users

Typically, there's still plenty of stuff missing and some of the things will probably never make it to the iOS. Here is a list of the things we continue to miss:

Still missing:

No Flash support in the web browser
No quick toggles for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G
No Facebook integration
No proper widgets for the lockscreen
App folders still are limited to 12 apps tops
No DivX/XviD video support out of the box (though there're lots of players in the App Store)
No haptics for the touchscreen
No Bluetooth file transfers to other phones (though there’s an app that solves that partially)
Contacts lack a swipe-to-delete or mass delete feature

Siri ::

Although new with iOS 5, A combination of voice recognition, artificial intelligence and integration with Phone, Mail, Safari, Music, Messages, Calendar, Reminders, Maps, Weather, Stocks, Notes, Clock and Contacts, in addition to services like Yelp and Wolfram Alpha online, Siri can recognize not just a list of canned spoken commands but natural speech and complex tasks.

Hold down the Home button and you can ask Siri to call a contact, send messages to set up appointments – having automatically checked your schedule and slotted in a new reminder – find nearby restaurants that come Yelp recommended, manage your contacts and check the weather. That’s the tip of the iceberg, however: the magic is in Siri’s grasp of conversational instructions and ability to distill meaning from your speech.

DDR 3 Memory

DDR3, which stands for Double Data Rate 3 (first release in 2007) , is a high-speed random access memory technology that is used in more than just computers. Smart phones, PDAs, Netbooks and other small electronic devices often take advantage of DDR3 memory,It offers many advantages over its predecessor, DDR2. DDR3 offers high-speed RAM that will help keep your computer running quickly & smoothly.

DDR3 will allow for chips up to 8GB, while DDR2 only allows for 4GB per chip. That means they have the ability to run more programs at one time without showing any sign of slowdown.DDR3 to be superior in bandwidth as well, with up to 1600 Mbps when it comes to data transfer rates. They also state that DDR3 memory is the same size as DDR2, though the two are not compatible.

With DDR3, the components are twice as fast as the fastest DDR2 memory sticks available. With their added speed and increased storage capacity, DDR3 is clearly superior to DDR2 when it comes to both speed and performance. DDR3 has a longer battery life, meaning the product will last longer. It is also designed with heat in mind, as DDR3 will overheat less than DDR2, even when pushed to their limits.

DDR3 memory operates on 1.5 volts of electricity instead of the previous 1.8 used by DDR2. While it may not seem like much, this small amount means the unit consumes less power than its predecessor. DDR3 RAM also features an asynchronous reset pin to reset the card if the need ever arises, something neither DDR2 or DDR memory featured, according to MemoryX.net.

BLUETOOTH is the most commonly used name now a days, as it is nowthe most unavoidable part of mobile phones. The name Bluetooth came from aSwedish word. Bluetooth logo is bind rune merging with German rune.

AS saidearlier it uses radio technology. Bluetooth chops the data before getting sentit and converts to normal data after got reached in the appropriate destinationin a definite frequency. It can exchange data between the devices like digital cameras, mobile phones, telephones, laptops,personal computers, printers, global positioning system receivers etc.

It isthe well known wireless electronic protocol usedfor transferring data in between shortest distances from fixed and mobileservices. It uses radio waves for the transmission creating PERSONAL AREANETWORKS (PAN). Actually it was conceived as a wireless alternative to RS232port. The most notable feature of Bluetooth is, it is able to connect severaldifferent devices to it overcoming the problems of synchronization.

Bluetooth specifications are made by Bluetooth Special InterestGroup (BSIG). Actually Bluetooth firstly designed for low power consumption andlow distance data transfer. Suddenly I made a new boom in the market since itis very cheaper and handy. But later the distance in between the data transfergot varied. Mostly they are divided into three different classes depends on itsrange. Class 1 can exchange data within a range less than 100m, Class 2’s rangeis less than 22m and class 3 ranges upto 6m. Bluetooth has two versions also.It is version 1.2 and version 2.0 + EDR.

Bluetoothfinds application in the fields of Wireless control andcommunication, wireless networking between PC’s,transfer of files, contact details, for controlling the vast use of infrared,to provide wireless bridge between Ethernet networks etc.

Bluetooth was developed in 1994 by JaapHaartsen and Sven Mattisson who were the workers of SONY ERICCSON Mobileplatforms. Bluetooth had come across various changes and new updations.Bluetooth versions like Bluetooth 1, Bluetooth 1.1, Bluetooth 1.2, Bluetooth2.0, Bluetooth 2.1, and Bluetooth 3.0 are the best examples for this change.Each of these is updated in quality and process depending on the needs ofpeople.

ORGANIC LIGHT EMITTING DIODE (OLED)

TheOLED has an emissive electroluminescent layer. This electroluminescent layerconsists of a film of organic compounds. This organic compound film emitslight if we provide an electric current to it. The layer of organicsemiconductor is placed between two electrodes and typically one of theseelectrodes is made transparent.

TheOLEDs find a wide range of applications. They are being used in computer monitorsand television set screens. The portablesystem screens like mobile phones and PDAs also make use of this technology.The organic LEDs are also used in advertising, informationand indication fields. The property of l space illumination I light sourcesalso utilizes the OLEDs.

Thelight emitting elements are of various ranges. And the large area hitting lightemitting elements uses an organic led. As these organic LEDs are in their earlystages of development they emit comparatively less light per unit area than the inorganic LED point lightsources which are solid state based.

Thereis no backlight for an OLED. The displaying of functions is done in the absenceof backlight. This makes OLED capable of displaying black levels. Also itbecomes thinner and lighter than the liquid crystal displaying. On comparing toLCD, the OLEDs show a betterperformance in darkrooms. They are able to acquire a higher contrast ratio in such conditions ifthe LCD uses a cold cathode fluorescent lamp or a LED backlight that isdeveloped very recently.

Substrate (clear plastic, glass, foil) - The substrate supports the OLED.

Anode (transparent) - The anode removes electrons (adds electron "holes") when a current flows through the device.

Organic layers - These layers are made of organic molecules or polymers.

Conducting layer - This layer is made of organic plastic molecules that transport "holes" from the anode. One conducting polymer used in OLEDs is polyaniline.

Emissive layer - This layer is made of organic plastic molecules (different ones from the conducting layer) that transport electrons from the cathode; this is where light is made. One polymer used in the emissive layer is polyfluorene.

Cathode (may or may not be transparent depending on the type of OLED) - The cathode injects electrons when a current flows through the device.

Wirelessenergy transfer also known as wireless power is a method of electrical energytransmission from a source to load without the use of wires to connect it. This is an emerging transmissionmethod expected to be realized sooner. It may provide a solution for many ofthe problems caused in the field of electricity transmission. This type oftransmission is most effective when the use of connecting wires ishazardous or in convenient. As in any other transmission systems, the wirelessenergy transfer has also limitations. But the problem of this field is quitedifferent from that of normal telecommunications such as radio. In the case ofradio, if the proportion of energy received is too low to be distinguished fromthe background noise, then it becomes critical. And for wireless power,the efficiency parameter is the more significant one. If the system is to beefficient and economical, then the main or large portion of the generated powershould reach the receivers.

The mostcommon method to implement wireless energy transferis by using direct induction succeded by resonant magnetic induction. The newinnovative methods available are electromagnetic radiation as microwaves orlasers.

The flowof electrical energy involves the phenomena inside the conductor andthose outside the conductor, that is, in the electric field. In theconventional electric power transmission and distribution, it is the phenomenainside the conductor that is of prime importance. Here the electric fieldoutside the conductor is just checked occasionally. But if we use electricpower for radio transmission or wireless energy transmission, it is theelectric and magnetic fields outside the conductor which is called theelectromagnetic radiation that is important in the message transmission. And we do not use the phenomenon in the conductor. A magnetic field andelectric lines of force resulting from it are produced by the electric chargedisplacement in the conductor. In the concentricdirection tothe conductor, the magnetic field will be maximum which describes the property of a ferromagnetic body toalign itself in right angles to the conductor.

But the electric field is maximum in adirection radial to the conductor and will cause the dielectric bodies to beattracted or repelled radially to the conductor.

The wireless transmission through electrodynamic induction is near field up to one- sixth of the used wave length used.Even though it is non radiative, some radiative losses occur. An electrical transformeris the simplest example of wireless transmission.

4G Technology ::

Whentalking about 4G Technology,the first question that comes in our mind is Whatis 4G? 4G standsfor Fourth Generation Technology and is successor of 3G Technology. In2009, the ITU-R organization specified the IMT-Advanced (InternationalMobile Telecommunications Advanced) requirements for 4G standards, setting peakspeed requirements for 4G service at 100 Mbit/s (Mega bit per Second) for high mobilitycommunication (such as from trains and cars) and 1 Gbit/s (Gega bit per Second) for low mobilitycommunication (such as pedestrians and stationary users)!

A 4G system is expected to provide a comprehensive and secureall-IP (Internet Protocol) based mobilebroadband solution to Laptop Computers, Wireless MODEMs, Smartphones, and otherMobile Devices. Facilities such as Ultra-Broadband Internet access, IP telephony, GamingServices, and Streamed Multimedia may be provided to users.

Monitor Display Technology

Monitorsare made of invariably 2 layers - a front layer of LCD (Liquid Crystal Displayor Liquid Crystal Diode) that makes up the dots you see as pixels, along withthe display of color.

ThisLCD layer is then back-lighted using light tubes at the back, giving itbrightness. Formerly, LCD displays use to use CCFL (Cold Cathode FlourescentLamp) as a light source at the back, but however in recent years there has beena marked shift towards the use of LED (Light Emitting Diode) as a back-lightsource.

The advantages of LEDs are as follows:

1. FasterTurn On: LEDscan reach maximum brightness faster than CCFLs, in fact almost instantly.

2. MoreNeutral Colors: CCFLsare known to give a warm/yellowish tint. LEDs have a more neutral whitepoint.

3. Brighter: LEDs are brighter generallythan CCFLs, thus allowing a display to achieve even higher maximum brightness.

4. Thinner: The reason LEDs are cominginto prominence is that it was driven by the notebook sectors - LEDback-lighting can be made thinner than CCFL back-lighting.

5. Longer-Lasting: Apparently, LEDs are ratedfor more life than CCFLs. Also the degradation over time is less severe thanCCFLs.

Touch-Screen Technology

You must have seen touch screens at ATMs, cellphones, information kiosks .Touch screen based system allows an easy navigation around a GUI based environment.

Tap on the screen twice for double clicks, and drag a figure on the screen to move the cursor .We can do almost everything the mouse does, and do away with the additional device(mouse) leaving only the screen.

So “They’re all the rage, they are the buzzword, they are probably the hottest thing in technological cosmos right now!”Falling price and improved technology has fueled the use of these devices in smaller consumer devices like mobile, Tablet PCs and handheld gaming consoles.

The components

There are four popular touch screen technologies but all of them have three main components.

· Touch sensitive surface

· The controller

· The software driver

>> The touch sensitive surface is an extremely durable and flexible glass or polymer touch response surface, and this panel is placed over the viewable area of the screen. In most sensors there is an electric signal going across the screen, and a touch on the surface causes change in the signal depending on the touch sensor technology used .This change allows the controller to identify the location of the touch.

>> The controller is a device that acts as the intermediate between the screen and the computer .It interprets the electrical signal of the touch event to digital signal that computer can understand. The controller can be placed with the screen or housed externally.

>> The software driver is an interpreter that converts what signal comes from the controller to information that the operating system can understand.

Touch screen sensor technologies

Resistive touch screens

Resistive touch screens have two glasses or acrylic layers, one of them is coated wit is conducting and other is coated with resistive material. When these layers brought in contact the resistance changes and change is registered and location of touch is calculated.

These are durable and resistant to humidity and liquid spills. But they offer limited clarity, and the surface can be easily damaged by sharp objects.

Capacitive touch screens

In these devices a glass panel with a coat of charge storing material on its surface .When the panel is touched, a small amount of charge is drawn at the point of contact. Circuit located at each corner of the screen measure the difference in charge and send information to the controller for calculating the position of touch.These are used where the clarity precision is of concern as in laptops and medical imaging
